Kimberly Rightor worked with the Amy Foundation (formerly the Amy Biehl Foundation) in Gugulethu, Western Cape, South Africa. She taught English to thirty kids ages 7-11 in the Amy Foundation's after school Foundation phase literacy program. Lesson plans focused on spelling, vocabulary and world geography. She is committed to two-way diplomacy, so she learned Xhosa while she taught English.

During one class, the kids made a quilt with Xhosa words on the front and English words on the back. In addition to her work with the Amy Foundation's after school program, Kimberly assisted with program planning for the Foundation. This included creating and presenting an orientation program for other volunteers, editing the Amy Foundation's newsletter, and assisting in a spelling bee for the youth of the Amy Foundation.
