PROJECT 1
Rice University Travel Scholarship

From the Dr. Massoud Javadi World Foundation
Dr. Massoud Javadi Memorial Travel Scholarship
Massoud Javadi (Wiess ’96) was born in France and visited over 50 countries during his life. He believed in travel as a crucial means to understanding different peoples and cultures. He was also passionate about travel being a critical and transformative experience in the life of the individual, one that would help them evolve into a well-rounded and educated person, a true citizen of the world.
As a student at Rice, Dr. Javadi lost out on a travel scholarship, but he traveled undeterred and went on to impact the world which is what Rice students do. He went on to do great things as a physician in local Houston hospitals and working for Doctors Without Borders in Africa.
Eligibility Requirements:
Current full-time student at Rice University (except Seniors)
Minimum GPA: 2.5
Essay outlining project/journey abroad that needs funding with completed application
A maximum of $5,000.00 will be awarded per student for summer travel, and two students per academic year will be selected. The winners of the scholarships will have what the selection committee believes to be unique and under-explored ideas in less developed parts of the world; we encourage you to go off the proverbial beaten path.
Once the travel project is completed, winners will submit a creative and informative report describing their experience and what they learned – which may take the form of a video, photo montage, and/or essay.
